This story as told from multiple view points, one of which is a Giant Pacific Octopus named Marcellus, is a beautiful depiction of character-growth and life growth. While the topic of grief is laced throughout the story, the brightness (no pun intended) of following each character through their own personal growth outweighs the grief aspect.
